Thank you to Freddie for writing this blog:
After what I would call a “character building” shower we enjoyed a filling breakfast of toast and African honey and plum jam. We then set off in our mini-buses for what would be an 11 hour journey to Rukungiri. There were several djs on the way- personal highlight being T-Dog who surprised us all with his dj skills. We also practised the hymns and children’s songs we would be singing tomorrow.
Waving to almost everyone we passed, we enjoyed taking our new surroundings in. We particularly enjoyed a truck that had on the back of it the words “No girlfriend no stress”.
After a few hours we reached the equator and stopped for some gift shopping and drinks. The purchase of yellow, black or red Uganda football shirts seemed to be the go-to- so we eventually looked like an Uganda national team supporters group.
We then set off again and all was going well until one of the buses got a puncture. Luckily Ben one of the drivers was handy with tools and we were quickly back on the road.
For lunch we enjoyed some Uganda food with goat, rice, beans and caught some of the Ipswich vs Liverpool game.
We passed breathtaking scenery with zebras and long horned cows and as night fell we finally made it to Rukungiri. We were welcomed by Revered Erik and the WATSAN team and as we were all very hungry at this point we wolfed down our supper.
We have a busy day ahead of us with 3 church services, 3lunches, school games, a radio appearance & tour of the House of good hope where we will be for the next few days. we have been welcomes most kindly & warmly and look forward to settling in.
Thank you for your prayers to those who have remembered us. We are very thankful for a safe journey!
